Congratulations to PDG Doug Vincent for receiving the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.  Only a limited number of distinguished Canadians were selected for this special recognition, honouring our Queen in her 60th year of reign.  Doug is a charter member of our club with over 30 years perfect attendance and many other Rotary leadership awards to his credit, including the Four Avenues of Service and coveted Service Above Self citations.

Recently community leaders, Rotarians, RCMP and friends gathered to honour Douglas W. Vincent during the presentation of a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal by MP David Mackenzie, Chair of the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights.

"For the second time in history, we honour the 60 year reign of a Sovereign Queen, who has dedicated her life to the service ofothers," said Mackenzie.  "The Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal commemorates and celebrates Her Majesty's accession to the throne. 

It gives us an opportunity to celebrate ... and is a tangible and lasting way to pay tribute to Canadians whose achievements have benefited their fellow citizens, their community ... and the country."
 "Doug is world renown for his volunteerism through Rotary International ... and his efforts on fundraising and assisting people in the community, be it local or overseas," said Melisa Pike, President of Woodstock Rotary Club.  "There are numerous examples including the national Ontario Toy Show & Auction, which he established and the "Healing Little Hearts" campaign where he advocates free heart surgeries for poor children in India."

"Through his United Nations activities and devotion to the RCMP he has helped bring proactive policing and peace programs to many communities.  He is well deserving of this honour."

"I really appreciate this recognition," commented Vincent.  "And I am humbled by this honour, which should be shared with my Rotary friends and family, who have contributed to my achievements." 

"Our commitment to Canada is strengthened when we collectively pay homage to those who distinguish themselves by virtue of their talents, their generosity, and their service to their community and to our country," concluded Mackenzie.
