News & Views Bulletin
Wishing You Peace, Joy, and Goodwill ...
By George ... my 50 official club visits are now complete, and each was unique and inspiring.  Like George, Rotary is shaping and improving communities.  Thank you!

Welcome to our sixth issue of the News & Views Bulletin.  For most of us, December is a time to reflect, count blessings, give thanks, and celebrate with family and friends.  Let us continue to work for Peace on Earth.  Happy Hanukkah, Merry Christmas, and Joy to the World!
Quote for the Month ... "I’m not a praying man, but if you’re up there and you can hear me, show me the way"   (It's a Wonderful Life)

There is a will ... there is a way!
Talking Turkey ... wow, what a project!
What a great public relations project. The Kitchener-Conestoga Rotary Club believes every family should have a special Christmas dinner.  The 2018 Turkey Drive goal is $400,000.  Club members are set up with a "go fund me" page ... that is emailed out to member contacts.  Each donation of $100 will feed a family of four (including a hamper and turkey).  All donations over $25 will receive a charitable tax receipt.
My Big FAB Rotarian Dinner ...  Stay Tuned!

For our Rotary Day, Rotarians are asked to invite non Rotarians (minimum 4, maximum 8) over for dinner on April 6, 2019 (with alternate date of May 4, 2019).  Each non Rotarian guest will be asked to donate at least $30 (payable to the club to benefit the Polio Plus Campaign) for a fantastic candlelight wine and dine event hosted by the Rotarian and Partner.  Photos during dinner to be posted online.  We are hoping to have RI President Barry Rassin live stream a message to all at a fixed time during dinner.  A great opportunity for public image, to introduce guests to Rotary, Foundation, and Polio ... and have a lot of fun.  For information, please contact event chair Linda Breault at linda@pearlehospitality.ca

February is Peace Month ... Looking for a speaker?
Our Rotary Peace Scholars at The Balsillie School of International Affairs and Conrad Grebel University University College are available to speak at clubs and events. February is a good month for presentations as it is Peace and Conflict Prevention / Resolution Month, and the students will have had more time to work on their projects/research and will be able to provide more information on their progress.  To schedule a speaker please contact Sherri Sutherland at the University of Waterloo   sherri.sutherland@uwaterloo.ca

Ask and you shall Receive ... Honduras Insight Trip
First, let me thank you for supporting our District wide Honduras Microfinance Project.  Club commitments to date exceed $50,000, with several clubs yet to report.  As promised, the annual Honduras Insight Trip is being organized ... and planned for March 4 - 9, 2019.  We are looking for 6 Rotarians, keen to learn more about microfinance, and willing to assist with the Global Grant application, to participate and join us on the trip.  Please read information and contact me at jgilvesy@gmail.com as soon as possible with questions and/or make reservations.
You could have heard a pin drop ...
While at a club visit to Kitchener Conestoga, 6 new members were inducted ... a great news story.   Equally impressive was the Induction speech written by Rotarian Wilfred Jenkins.  When first read, it was described as if it was a voice from heaven ... what it is to be a Rotarian.  When you have a quiet moment, have a read.  Thank you for being a Rotarian!
