This month's poll asks about adding gender pronouns to club member's name tags.

A post on a popular Rotary Facebook Page recently asked for ideas on how to incorporate gender pronouns onto the name badges that Rotarians wear at meetings.   The post created an interesting discussion about the merits of the overall idea.

Those in favour of the idea felt that including gender pronouns would allow members to feel more comfortable by fostering an environment where all are free to use the pronoun(s) they choose.  It would eliminate the need to make assumptions about a person’s gender identity. It would also normalize the use of a variety of pronouns and encourage members to move beyond a worldview that is limited to just two genders. (....a good practice for DEI.)

Those who opposed the idea of adding pronouns to name tags felt that idea could serve to segregate club members by calling out people's differences. Others noted that titles that denote marital status are not currently placed on name tags (Mr, Mrs, Ms), even though they can be an important part of a person’s personal identity. Their concern was that adding information, other than name and vocation, could open a can of worms.

So, what do you think?  Should Rotary and Rotaract clubs start to add gender pronouns to their member’s name tags?

Results From the Nov 2021 Bulletin Poll

Here are the results from last month's poll that asked about the type of meeting that members would like to see their club use (in the future).  Although the sample size was small (14 people), it looks like most would like to see their club adopt a mix of Zoom and “in-person’ meetings. (...alternate between the two types of meetings.)
