RC Oakville Supports Rotary Club in Mexico

I had the privilege of being a volunteer driver for a teacher …. out into the country-side surrounding San Miguel de Allende Mexico.  The Rotary Club of San Miguel de Allende Midday has a really exciting ‘Girl’s Empowerment Project’ where they originally asked for volunteer ‘train-the-teacher’ women.  This was about two years ago and they now have ten trained teachers who attend the schools and teach schoolgirls, ages 10 to 12, in classes of no more than 8 at a time, about how their bodies work.

The RC SMA Midday has partnered with ‘The Ninas Sabias’ , an organization founded in the Lake Chapala area in 2017 to distribute menstrual kits sewn by local volunteers with the aim to keep girls in school four weeks of the month.  From that early start, the organization has now trained Spanish-speaking women in 13 countries and RC SMA Midday has partnered with both The Ninas Sabias (now a registered not-for-profit) and the State government department of education (which allows them access to the schools).

The class was very educational for the girls and with interactive training, I watched them participate and have fun while learning .As a side note to this Rotary Project, the club as more than doubled in size since this project was accepted.
