District Governor Syd Harmon 2006-07

Syd joined Brampton-Heart Lake Rotary in 1991 and had the honour of serving as their charter President. Since then he has been very active with his home club, chairing the Firefighters' calendar project and various fund raising projects. In recent years, he has enjoyed serving as the club's membership chair.

He has served on the District's Foundation committee for both the permanent and the annual fund, as an Assistant Governor, and a member of the Brazil Lighthouse for Learning. Team. In November 2005, he completed the formation of Caledon West Rotary.

Syd has been active in the community since the late 60's, when he joined the Jaycees and in 1977-78 was the Canadian National Jaycee President. Since then, he has served various leadership roles with Junior Achievement, Multiple Sclerosis, Lung Association, Cancer Society, as chair of session at his church, mushball slo-pitch league and has donated 178 pints of blood to Red Cross.

Syd joined Confederation Life as a sales rep. in 1979. He thereafter completed 4 financial and insurance degrees and designations. Today, as a life insurance & retirement broker; having branded Harmony Insurance & Financial Services Inc. , he helps clients with various estate and financial planning needs. He has also served in volunteer leadership positions in the life insurance industry. Daughter Stephanie joined dad as a life insurance broker in May 2006, after graduation from the Carleton University in Ottawa.

Syd and his wife Heather have hosted 2 exchange students. Their youngest child Ashton has completed film studies and works in the industry in Vancouver. Their oldest daughter Cindy is a Grade 2 teacher in Brampton, is married to Dave. They have 2 children, Sydney Grace & Aiden David. Syd is an avid golfer, and has played mushball since 1980. Heather enjoys travel and reading about the Royal family.
