A Pasta Dinner and Trivia Night
Rotary Club of Guelph South tests their brain power at Trivia Night at Shoeless Joe's in Guelph
On Wednesday, February 15, members of Rotary Club of Guelph South gathered at Shoeless Joe's in Guelph for another challenging Trivia Night. Members tested their brain power with the winner taking home the coveted “Brain” trophy.
And the winning member to take home the brain was Veronika Sorek, one of the Club’s newest members (pictured on the left).
“Wednesday night Trivia at Shoeless Joe's is becoming one of our Club’s favourite annual social events”, says Shelley Adlington, incoming president of the Club and Board. “It brings Club members together for fun and camaraderie.”
Several club members bravely took on the Trivia challenge after a delightful dinner and great conversation. Groups of four teamed up to answer a plethora of perplexing questions with lots of laughter permeating the positive ambiance throughout the restaurant.
“We all left for home in great spirts and our heads spinning,” says Celia Clark, long-time Club member and co-chair of the fundraising committee for the upcoming inaugural Brunch at the Barn fundraising event on June 4th. “If your Club is looking for an entertaining and thought-provoking night, we highly recommend putting together your own Trivia Night so that members can come together for an enjoyable evening with a little competition mixed in.”
The Club is already planning Trivia Night for next year where the brain trophy will be up for grabs against defending champ, Veronika.
19th Annual Taste of Italy Pasta Dinner
On Friday, February 10th, Guelph South Rotary's TASTE OF ITALY PASTA DINNER returned to Puslinch following a two-year hiatus due to COVID restrictions, and it was an overwhelming success! Judging by the high energy in the Archie MacRobbie Hall at the Puslinch Community Centre it was obvious that guests from other Rotary clubs in the Guelph area and dozens of local residents were enjoying the opportunity to come together again for a delicious meal, prepared by Guelph South Rotarians, and to visit with friends and family.
This was a fundraising event in support of Sunrise Therapeutic Riding & Learning Centre and other local charities. Funds were raised through the generosity of local businesses and individuals who sponsored 21 of the dining tables, together with many donors providing gift cards, for the 'Gift Card Game,' in addition to auction prizes. The model of the Residential/ Respite / Life Skills building, for adults with cognitive disabilities, proposed at the Sunrise farm was on display. A four-minute video that was shown during the evening provided young adults with cognitive disabilities and their parents the opportunity to express the great need for a facility of this kind.
In an attempt to ensure Guelph South Rotary was able to continue fundraising, in the event that COVID restrictions should arise again, the Rotarians previously held an on-line holiday auction late last Fall. The combined proceeds from that auction, and Friday's Pasta Dinner, were just over $16,000 for local charities.
At the conclusion of Friday's event, students from the University of Guelph's Rotaract Club gave their support by arriving to help Rotarians with the final clean- up. Rotaract provides young adults the opportunity to experience being a part of community service, in preparation for later becoming a member of a local Rotary club. The Guelph Rotaractors are running a fundraising Gala at the University on Friday March 10th in support of the Guelph Children's Foundation.
