2020 marks the 11th year for the Rotary Online Auction.  Started in 2009 by the Rotary Club of Oakville Trafalgar, the event now includes a total of 7 Clubs in District 7080.  Over the past 3 years the event has successfully generated over $200K in net proceeds for participating clubs.

The formula for club cooperation and success is simple. Each club gets out of it what they put into it.  The total $ sales for all auction items collected by a given club goes back to that club. The cost to run the event is split equally across participating clubs and amounts to a small fraction of total sales for each club.

This year’s event will feature a greater promotional push via a shared Facebook Page and Instagram Page.  The event’s website has also been updated with new graphics, information about Rotary and an overview of how net proceeds are used.  Check it out at: www.rotaryonlineauction.ca

This year’s auction will take place from November 7th to 21st.  All participating clubs are currently hard at work soliciting items to place in the auction.  Gift certificates from local restaurants have traditionally been a mainstay of the event; they were relatively easy to secure and generated strong bids.  COVID-19 has put that at risk. Few restaurant owners have the ability to give and fewer people have a desire to dine out.  Never deterred, clubs are creating new ideas for items to sell that cater to life during lockdown.  From online cooking classes, to bicycle tune-ups and family-friendly board games, the 2020 auction promises to offer a range of items that will attract bidders and help clubs achieve their fundraising goals.

This year’s participating clubs include:

  • Oakville Trafalgar
  • Burlington North
  • Kitchener
  • Milton
  • Georgetown
  • Mississauga West
  • Mississauga Meadowvale
  • Also participating this year is the Golf Committee from the Oakville and Oakville West clubs, as their fundraiser was cancelled.
Item donations and sponsorships are being accepted until November 6th.  If you would like to support the event please contact: info@rotaryonlineauction.ca
