Disease prevention and treatment is the Rotary International theme for December and one that most non-Rotarians associate with Rotary International due to our incredible efforts to eradicate polio.  We’re nearly there…but the job is not yet finished. If you have never participated in a National Immunization Day (NID), here’s probably your last chance to participate in giving Polio drops to immunize children in India before the Government of India switches to injectables. Please make sure you have sufficient time to apply for a visa for travel to India.

Polio Eradication NID – India Jan 3-5, 2020
Message from the Rotary Club of Agra Tajmahal

Each year, we receive numerous comments by Rotarians that they “wish we knew how to join a Polio Campaign trip.”  We are asking your help to get this information into the hands of your clubs as soon as possible so that your Rotarians can have this experience by publishing in your upcoming Governor’s Monthly Newsletter.

In 2015, India was declared polio free.  However, because of the surge of new polio cases in Afghanistan & Pakistan, and due to regular visits from non-immigrants, we fear polio may come back to India, so we have to still keep on working to fight against Polio.  Hence our “ KEEP INDIA POLIO FREE MISSION”.

Rotary Club of Agra Taj Mahal Initiative – we are conducting a Polio Mega Campaign 3-5 January 2020.  If any of your clubs/district members are interested, please ask them to sign up.  The interest form and specific information are attached. Please click here.

This journey will be a landmark event in your Rotary Experience.

  • Demonstrating to our partners UNICEF and WHO that Rotary is not just a fund-raising organization but the world’s biggest service organization.
  • Your Participation gives tremendous boost to local Rotarians who have been managing booths regularly for many years and where undoubtedly fatigue is setting in.
  • Most important of all, we get a higher turnout of children in a poor area or slum of Agra when there are strange foreigners with their bright faces and in yellow Rotary shirts asking for having 2 drops of Polio Vaccine.
  • Giving the opportunity to a volunteer in knowing that they have prevented dozens of children from this horrible disease and many find this a very moving experience.
  • Indian hosts waiting to welcome with open arms creating unique and exceptional itinerary.  In addition to Polio Immunization Rounds, you will participate in special Rotary activities, Social events and Rotary club projects visit.

Impact of your visit: Giving 2 drops of Polio vaccine to dozens of children with your appeal that no child to be left without drops, directly benefits one family/community but indirectly impacts approximately 3000 to 5000 people.
Our objective: Create awareness among our community by giving polio drops to help India remains Polio free.
Positive changes: Because of you as “Foreign Rotarians” and visitors to local communities, those who were not previously taking drops can be converted from nonrecipient cases.
