Visit to Conrad Grebel University College

On Wednesday, April 12 th Rotarians from various areas of District 7080 visited Conrad Grebel University College. The visit was arranged by the District Peace Committee.

Conrad Grebel University College, University of Waterloo established the first peace studies program at a Canadian University. It was chartered in 1961 and taught its first classes in 1963.

We received a warm welcome from Conrad Grebel and heard from Fred Martin,  Director of Advancement and Reina Neufeld, Chair of Peace and Conflict Studies. Kathi Dick, Chair of the District Peace Committee gave a brief history of Rotary’s history with peace.

We were inspired by two Masters Degree students, Shadrack Kamyori from Tanzania and Fatim Maiga from Mali. Fatim wrote a letter to her 18-month-old niece about the kind of world she would like to see her niece grow up in. This heartwarming letter can be found here

The District Peace Committee is coming up with a plan which will enable clubs, who are willing, to sponsor students to the Peace and Conflict Studies at ConradGrebel. Stay tuned.
