Service Above Self by Georgetown Rotary

It all started with a simple idea on May 5th, 2023 to serve free meals to our community members. Without a robust promotion plan, the first event only attracted 20 people from the nearby neighborhood.

Rotarians quickly put their Service-Above-Self minds together and formed a committee to strategize this event management. After a year, the turnout at the dinner on July 5th, 2024 was our highest yet at closet to 80 guests, including many seniors in our community for which this event on the first Friday of each month has become their monthly gathering.

Thanks to our co-operating partner, the KNOX Presbyterian Church and their volunteers from the Out of the Cold Program, who provide the venue and the kitchen facilities. The event has also brought in local community members who have volunteered to be the executive chefs, providing home-made cuisine for the guests. Rotarians & volunteers enjoy preparing & serving meals, mingling with seniors, sharing many laughs, and cleaning dishes together which makes this simple idea of serving the community another successful Rotary service project in Georgetown.
