Cambridge North Rotary Restores Vandalized Park
In response to the loss of the Rotary Gazebo at Bechtel Park in Cambridge due to vandalism, members of the Rotary Club of Cambridge North (CNR) worked with volunteers from Home Deport and Schiedel Construction to rebuild a new, resilient gazebo. This activity occurred in the recent past but the activity was not shared with Rotarians across District 7080.
This project involved demolition of the damaged Rotary gazebo on one day followed by construction over the following two days. When the new gazebo was constructed, it included donated steel and other materials considered resilient from vandalism. The colours of the gazebo were selected to match the blue-yellow theme of Rotary. Other activities included building flower planters, placement of new playground equipment, weed pulling, and mulching around the area.
Rotarians from CNR whom worked on the gazebo included Fred Schiedel, Stan Jones, Sean Carragher, Gerald Menezes, Laureen Van Gronigen, Peter Ashenhurst, Jimmy Robinson, Michael Jennings, Don Daggett, and Dean Fitzgerald.
We will be placing an updated memorial plaque in the coming months.
