Greetings Rotary Family!

For the month of October, we celebrate our work in Community and Economic Development. Nearly 800 million people live on less than $1.90 a day.  Through the work of our passionate members and support from our Rotary Foundation we increase our impact by strengthening entrepreneurs and community leaders, particularly women, in impoverished communities.

This month also finds us celebrating World Polio Day on October 24.  Rotary members around the world gather together to fundraise and promote our number one external priority of eradicating polio. Pedaling for Polio, Pints for Polio, Pizza for Polio and Corn Holio for Polio are all entertaining ways to raise funds and awareness for polio eradication.  What is your club doing this year?

It is very exciting to share that on September 20 at our Action Zone event in Toronto the Honorable Ahmed Hussen, Canada’s Minister of International Development, announced a new contribution of $151 million CAD from the Government of Canada to support the work of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative.  A huge thank you to Past Rotary International President and Rotary Foundation Trustee Jennifer Jones and Past Rotary International Vice President and Past Rotary Foundation Trustee Dean Rohrs for their hard work in making this colossal announcement happen.

Please enjoy this month’s video (link below) with my guest Dave Andrews. Dave is sharing a great project his Oshawa, Ontario (District 7070) club is doing to promote World Polio Day.

Yours in Rotary,
Chris Etienne
