Shining Light on the Need for Unity

February is celebrated as Black History Month in this part of the world. Statement from Rotary International declares , "At Rotary, we have no tolerance for racism. Promoting respect, celebrating diversity, demanding ethical leadership, and working tirelessly to advance peace are central tenets of our work" .

Members of RC Brampton South thought of discussing our actions as Rotarians to reaffirm a commitment to building a more diverse, united and welcoming world for everyone.

Rtn. Uche Okugo DGND D7080 and IPP RC Brampton agreed to be guest speaker for an in person meeting on 26th Feb. He chose to speak on the Role of ‘Promoting Peace’ to shine light on the need for unity. He emphasized that as rotarians, we must understand that cultivating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture is essential to realizing vision of Rotary. Peace is a cornerstone of Rotary’s mission.

When people work to create peace in their communities to address the underlying causes of conflict, including poverty, discrimination, ethnic tension, lack of access to education, and unequal distribution of resources, that change can have a global effect. Promoting positive peace by creating high level of human capital, acceptance of rights of others, having transparency of thought and action, equitable distribution of resources free flow of information in social, political and economic fields can fight most of the challenges faced by societies.

We also had a pleasure welcome & get to know, visiting Rotarian, Wale Bogunjko, PP RC of Ibadan Gold, D-9125 Nigeria.
