In the 2018/2019 Rotary year, the Rotaract Club of Mississauga pledged to raise $5000 over two years in support of the Well Installation Project on Ukerewe Island, Tanzania, a project spearheaded by the Rotary Clubs of Meaford and Thornbury. Working in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Nansio in Tanzania and Tanzanian village leaders, the Rotary Clubs of Meaford and Thornbury identified the need for access to safe water in villages across Ukerewe Island.

With the funds contributed by the Rotaract Club of Mississauga, the project team will be able to build another well. Because of the many benefits of building a well in these villages, this project aligns with four of Rotary’s Areas of Focus: providing clean water, saving mothers and children, supporting education, and growing local economies.

With the resounding success of the Cookie Dough Drop Fundraiser in December 2020, the Rotaract Club of Mississauga has now secured all of the funding required for their portion of the project. Fittingly, the club celebrated this achievement during March, Rotary’s Water and Sanitation Month. When world travel is again safe for the participating Rotary clubs, the well installation will occur.
