Rotaract Mississauga Welcomes Peel Police Chief
The Rotaract Club of Mississauga recently had the privilege of welcoming Peel Regional Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah for an engaging fireside chat focused on community safety, trust, and youth leadership. The evening brought together youth and young professionals from across the community for an open and honest conversation with PRP leadership.
Moderated by club leadership, the discussion created space for attendees to ask candid questions, share lived experiences, and explore how stronger relationships can be built between young people and law enforcement. Topics ranged from community engagement and representation to public trust and the role youth play in shaping safer and more connected communities.
One of the most impactful moments of the evening came from reflections shared by newcomer youth in attendance. Several participants spoke about coming from countries where police officers are not always viewed as approachable or community-minded in the same way. For many, the opportunity to sit in a room with police leadership, ask questions openly, and feel genuinely heard was both meaningful and empowering.
As a club, Rotaract Mississauga believes that creating spaces for dialogue is essential to building understanding and strengthening communities. Events like these demonstrate the importance of bringing together diverse voices and ensuring young people have a seat at the table in conversations that directly affect them.
The club extends its sincere thanks to Chief Nish and the Peel Regional Police team for their openness, leadership, and willingness to engage with youth and young professionals in such an authentic way.
Rotaract Mississauga, in collaboration with Rotaract Brampton looks forward to continuing this collaborative work and creating more opportunities for dialogue, connection, and community-building in the future.
