Rotary Club of Brampton South @ Family Life Resource Centre by The Salvation Army on Rotary Epic Day of Service

On Saturday, May 16, 2026, members of the Rotary Club of Brampton South gathered at the Family Life Resource Centre by The Salvation Army as part of Rotary International's Epic Day of Service — a globally synchronized day of volunteer action uniting Rotary's 1.4 million members in communities around the world. With gloves on and the timeless Rotary motto of Service Above Self as their guide, club members dedicated the morning to two hands-on projects: revitalizing the center’s garden and relocating diaper boxes to the facility's storage room.

A Community Hub Worth Showing Up For

The Family Life Resource Centre by The Salvation Army is a cornerstone of the Peel Region community, providing vital programs across early childhood support, solely for abused women and their children fleeing family violence or intimate partner abuse. This is where the Rotary Club of Brampton South stepped in.

Bringing the Garden Back to Life

Outdoor spaces at community center’s carry more weight than aesthetics alone. A clean, welcoming garden signals care and dignity for every family that walks through the door. Rotary volunteers worked steadily through the morning, clearing debris, pruning vegetation, and bringing order to the garden space. By the time the work was done, the transformation was clear — a neglected area had been renewed into a welcoming environment for the children, parents, and caregivers who visit the centre each week. It was a visible, tangible expression of the club's commitment to the organization and the community it serves.

Organizing Essential Supplies for Families in Need

The second task was equally meaningful. Volunteers carefully moved a collection of Diaper boxes to the Centre’s storage room, ensuring this critical supply was organized and ready for distribution. Diapers are among the most needed yet least donated items

at family resource centres across Canada. Diaper insecurity is a real challenge for many low-income families, affecting infant health and a family's ability to access childcare programs. By making sure the centre's supply was properly stored and accessible, Rotary members helped to move this essential resource without delay. It is the kind of behind-the-scenes work that rarely earns headlines — but it is exactly the work that keeps community services running smoothly.

Service That Speaks for Itself

The Rotary Club of Brampton South's participation in the 2026 Epic Day of Service is a reminder that Rotary's most enduring work happens close to home — in the neighborhoods, centres, and gardens where people live their daily lives. The club members who showed up on May 16th did not come as outside helpers; they came as neighbors, committed to the wellbeing of their community. Their effort affirmed something the staff and clients of the Family Life Resource Centre by The Salvation Army know well: that they are seen, valued, and supported.

To every Rotarian who gave their time that morning — and to all who participated in this year's Epic Day of Service around the world — your collective impact, one act of service at a time, continues to make a difference.
