60 Years of Service Above Self

On June 7th, 2023, Rotary Waterloo celebrated 60 years of Service Above Self. On June 13th, we gathered to mark this incredible milestone.

We were joined by many of our alumni who came to celebrate this achievement. Among the alumni were 7 of our past presidents. Along with our members and alumni, we were honoured to share the celebration with the Mayor of Waterloo, Dorothy McCabe and our esteemed MPP Catherine Fife. The attendees were rounded out by Ingo Schopel, the oldest alum who began as a Rotarian in 1973.

Rotary Waterloo is proud of their many fundraising initiatives such as the Annual Golf Tournament, the Annual Mayors State of the City Address, and our Annual Citrus Fundraiser. In our early years we ran a fest hall during Oktoberfest, a Jamaican Night and even a Carnival which was co-hosted with the Kitchener Clubs. These funds have been used to support so many organizations in our community – Kids Ability, The Working Center, House of Friendship the Food Bank and too many more to name.

The Club has also supported young people in our community. A proud achievement of the Club for many years was our participation in Rotary Youth Exchange. The Club hosted many students from all over the world and sent out local students in equal numbers. We provided Rotary Citizenship Awards at high schools in Waterloo and Elmira, and sponsor and mentor  two Rotaract Clubs, one at WLU and the other, a community-based club, in Waterloo.

As Rotarians we look forward to 60 more years of Service Above Self !
