District 7080 RYLA is back!
The Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is an intensive training program that brings together youth and young adults to further develop character and leadership skills, and learn about Rotary. The program helps to fulfill Rotary’s commitment to youth service by empowering young people through leadership development. District 7080 is happy to announce RYLA is back for 2022 in a virtual format. While the format will be different from the traditional experience, the committee is confident the virtual environment will be able to provide the intimate, safe, and welcoming environment that our district is known for!
The event will run from Friday May 13 to May 15. This year's focus is on teamwork, personal development and leadership and will consist of a range of speakers, workshops, group activities and independent activities.
How can you get involved?
Encourage your club to send a student!
Each year, Rotary clubs commit to sending one student to participate in RYLA. By sending a student, the club pays for the cost and in return, the student makes a presentation to your club about their experience. We have also seen clubs take it to the next level by encouraging their sponsored students to stay active with the club and get involved in club projects. This is a great way to introduce youth to Rotary!
Do you know someone that would benefit from this experience? Let your club know!
You may know someone that can truly benefit from a RYLA experience. When considering selection criteria for participants, we recommend the consideration of the following:
  • Level of interest in participation or in specific topics
  • Maturity
  • Academic performance
  • Participation in extracurricular activities or community organizations
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities or leadership potential
  • Educational or career goals
  • Availability and time commitment
Also, take some time as a club to be thoughtful about how you can engage participants from traditionally underrepresented communities.
