Remembrance Day Commemoration by Rotary Club of Brampton

On Nov 7, 2022, Rotary Club of Brampton had its Remembrance Day Commemoration with a full house of Rotarians and guests.

Amongst whom were our guest speaker Henry "Hank" Verschuren, Parade Commander and Government/Community Liaison for Regimental Association of the Lorne Scots (Royal Canadian Legion).

Graham McGregor, MPP Brampton North.

Dennis Keenan, City Councillor-elect for Wards 3 & 4.

Aziz Amiri, President of Canada Afghanistan Business Council.

Ashfaq Ahmed representing the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama'at Brampton.

We had three visiting Rotarians from District 9110 Nigeria: Dr. Alh Umar Alaba Olalekan, Dr. Ayo Morgan Adeyemi and Victor Edomwande.

We were also honoured with the presence of two veterans: Retired Master Corporal Glen Coyle, 1st Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regimen (1RCR) and Air Commodore Surjeet Bhatti, Rtd. of the Indian Airforce.

In my closing remarks, as part of calling on all to embrace and be deliberate about peace, I reminded attendees to practice Rotary's Four-Way Test and I quoted Pope Francis from his July 25, 2022 apology to the Indigenous peoples of Canada. He said:

"The opposite of love is not hate, it is indifference. The opposite of life is not death, it is indifference."

Thank you, our fallen VETERANS, for dying without fear so we can live in freedom.
