Pumpkinfest and Thanksgiving Food Drive
For many years, the Rotary Club of Shelburne has worked with Centre Dufferin District High School in Shelburne on a Thanksgiving Food Drive for the local food bank. Students distribute bags to houses around town and several days later Rotarians and other volunteers collect the food bags which residents leave on their porches or front steps. We had a very successful food drive, with about 2,500 pounds of food collected.
This year we decided to add a Pumpkinfest after the food drive on the Saturday of the Thanksgiving weekend. Despite suddenly cold temperatures and on and off rain, the event proved to be a resounding success, with over 500 attendees. The afternoon included Elsa performances, a magic show, balloon making, a velcro wall, inflatable slides and carnival games, Paw Patrol, face painting and SO much more! The cash proceeds and the additional 200 pounds of food that were collected at the event went to the Shepherd’s Cupboard Food Bank in Shelburne.
The Rotary Club of Shelburne continues to combat food insecurity in our community with events like these.
