District 7080 - Governor's Message
Take Care of Self, Each Other and the Planet
My Personal Theme for this year is Take Care of Self, Each Other and the Planet. Our personal success depends on making smart choices, on having strong relationships and working on restoring and strengthening our environment. As a retired Family Physician I naturally bring my professional values to Rotary. In this month’s message I’d like to focus on Taking Care of Self.
This does not seem like a time for great optimism, but it has to be. Long before Rotary was founded, the world dealt with great crises that tested humankind’s ability to progress and endure. In the age of Rotary, the world has faced many more catastrophes; however, we have survived, and every step of the way, Rotary has helped the world heal.
Supporting the Environment Becomes a New Area of Focus
The Rotary Foundation Trustees and Rotary International Board of Directors have both unanimously approved adding a new area of focus: supporting the environment.
For several years Rotarians and Rotaractors around the world have been discussing how to elevate Rotaract and recognize their clubs as equal partners in service. Rotaractors have offered their ideas to the Board through RI’s Rotaract Committee, at the annual Rotaract Preconvention, and through online surveys and focus groups — and it was time to take action.
There’s Never Been a Better Reason to Visit Taipei!

Introducing Valarie Wafer, Board Director at RI and Fellow Canadian
For the last 3 years our zone, Zone 28, has been well represented by Jeffry Cadorette. His knowledge and terrific sense of humour made him a friend of our District. Replacing Jeffry will be Valarie Wafer, a member of the Rotary Club of Collingwood, South Georgian Bay.
Facebook is a powerful platform to share ideas and generate discussion. District 7080 currently has two channels on Facebook; each has a unique role and objective. Our FB Page targets those outside of Rotary with stories meant to encourage involvement in our organization. Our FB Group is where club members go to share their ideas, insights and passion for Rotary.
This spring’s Club Leadership Training program demonstrated the power of real-time online training sessions. The PR Committee is looking to keep a good thing going by offering 3 new training sessions for members looking dial-up their PR and communication skills.
Up to $5000 Federal in Grants for Eligible Rotaractors and Rotarians
The Federal Government is now offering Grants of up to $5,000 to eligible students who have served in a Not for Profit organization as a Volunteer on Covid 19 Related Projects.
When COVID-19 reared its ugly head in our community the four Oakville Rotary Clubs immediately came together to discuss projects and fundraising efforts that might meet the emerging needs.
