April is Maternal and Child Health Month for Rotary which is another one of our Areas of Focus. Related to this area of focus, Gender Equality is one of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. This theme was highlighted on International Women’s Day last month. The cause is one that has been a societal issue that harkens back to a time when women weren’t recognized as persons and were not allowed to vote. The women’s rights movement continues to address equality, reproductive rights and violence against women.
In these difficult days, we are so heartened to receive such uplifting reports on the unrelenting efforts of our Rotary members who have responded in their communities against the COVID-19 pandemic.
Today, the single question we hear time and again is, “Are we getting involved with COVID vaccination?”
Planning for this event is now well under way for most clubs. If your club is still looking to get involved, the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup website can suggest areas in your city that could benefit from a cleanup. This site will also specify COVID-19 policies you must adhere to for your event. Please email James Weber if you plan to participate. James will be collecting data on participation within District 7080.
Club Leadership Training (CLT) - April 10th to 17th.
If you are an incoming Board member or committee chair - or if you aspire to be, these sessions are for you. They are role-specific and provide essential information on how each committee functions. If you are a newer member, learn the function of each committee so that you can serve.
“Each one, bring one” is a great idea and we encourage all members to embrace it. To help bolster membership attraction, the District has also developed a new microsite that explains who we are, and what we do.
The Board of Rotary International met this past week and has decided to further suspend the Youth Exchange program through June 2022. Our District Committee remained optimistic through this very difficult year that enough progress would have been made to resume the program. But with the safety of our students and volunteers paramount, the decision to suspend for another year is the correct one.
Rotary District 7080 shares an interest in protecting our common legacy: the Environment. We invite our members to support activities that strengthen the conservation and protection of natural resources, advance ecological sustainability, and foster harmony between communities and the environment.
For a “Catch the ACE” Rotary Raffle to work well, it requires large participation from purchasers. Big cash prizes drive big ticket sales! This may not be an easy task for one Rotary Club. By collaborating with other clubs in Ontario, there could be easily be over 100 clubs to promote the Feel Good Raffle.
In past years, the Rotary Club of Burlington Central recognized new Paul Harris Fellows at an Awards breakfast meeting. Members of all 4 Burlington Rotary Clubs, as well as friends and family of the recipients, would gather for an exciting formal event.
COVID-19 would force a change in 2021. New thinking created an opportunity for greater community involvement.
