Sheridan College's Environmental Journey: From Campus to Community
Here is the registration link to the webinar:
As Director of Sustainability, Professor Sinnock is responsible for all aspects of corporate sustainability vision, strategy and culture, including implementation of Mission Zero, the institution's ambitious plan to reduce energy consumption, waste to landfill and greenhouse gas emissions.
Sheridan College's efforts to protect the environment have been extended from the Campus to the Communities of Oakville, Brampton and their Environmental Protection projects. Municipalities recognize many of the benefits of embracing a green transition, often citing reduced Greenhouse gas emissions, greater fuel-use efficiency and lower energy costs in their strategic ambitions; however, our North American communities are moving slowly against the urgency of our global climate crisis. Technology is not the issue – modern, highly-efficient systems have been successfully deployed throughout the world for decades. Instead, the issues appear to be political will, the absence of long-range strategic plans that quantify energy or carbon impacts, over-dependence on simple financial payback, and lack of knowledge about the technology. Sheridan has demonstrated that major institutional stakeholders, such as hospitals and universities can play a pivotal role in advancing community energy strategies and projects. Professor Sinnock’s talk will follow one institution's journey from improving the Campus to leveraging its experiences to reach beyond its campus boundary and partner with its municipal and public sector partners. Bio for Prof. Sinnock: As Director – Sustainability for Sheridan College in Oakville, Ontario, Herbert Sinnock is responsible for all aspects of corporate sustainability vision, strategy and culture, including implementation of Mission Zero, the institution’s ambitious plan to reduce energy consumption, waste to landfill and greenhouse gas emissions.
