Dear District Governor Lesley,

Heavy rain in the mountains of Peru triggered flash flooding and deadly landslides destroying over 4,000 homes, displacing thousands of families multiple districts across Peru. As floods and landslides rampage Southern Peru, the death toll has reached 5 and is expected to grow.

SHELTERBOX TEAMS ARE MONITORING THE SITUATION, DETERMINING HOW TO ACT

We are working with local organizations and Rotary clubs to evaluate the situation and gather firsthand accounts of the damage to determine if a response is needed. These monitoring activities will determine if ShelterBox will act in the form of direct aid. However, we must be ready to be able to move quickly and efficiently if it is determined that action is necessary. If there is a gap in aid that ShelterBox can fill, aid is on standby in Panama.

Flooding does not only affect the shelter needs of families, but water sources often become contaminated making access to clean water difficult leading to increased danger of waterbourne illnesses. Our aid focuses on shelter, but also contains what is needed to call a shelter a home, including a water purification system which guarantees family clean water in their time of need.

ShelterBox and Rotary are official Project Partners in international disaster relief. We are working in partnership with Rotary every step of the way. As people of action, we strive to ensure your support has the greatest impact on vulnerable families affected by disaster.

By getting clubs in your district involved in ShelterBox fundraising, you are ensuring that whenever and wherever disaster strikes, ShelterBox can be there to understand how best to support communities and when required, provide the emergency shelter and aid items families need to self-recover.

Thank you for your continued support and for providing aid to families in need around the world.
Yours in Service,

Tess Widdifield
