Dear District Governor Rudolph,

4 days ago, the Philippines was hit by Super Typhoon Rai. The storm, known locally as Odette, isn't just the strongest storm to hit the Philippines this year - it's one of the strongest the world has seen in 2021.

The typhoon was the equivalent of a category 5 hurricane, with sustained winds of 195kmph (120mph) and gusts of up to 240kmph (150mph). It cleared the country on Saturday, but not before it caused mass destruction. So far we know 630,000 people have been displaced, and over 200 people have lost their lives. We expect these numbers to rise significantly in the coming days.

ShelterBox has supported people many times in the Philippines – and we are responding now. We have an office and staff in the Philippines, aid stored locally, and we are working with our local partners, including our Rotary connections. We will be providing emergency shelter and vital supplies to the hardest-hit communities.

We need your help urgently.

While our attention turns to the Philippines, sadly, the need for emergency shelter around the world is growing at an alarming rate. We are also currently working in Haiti, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, and Mozambique. Your Club's donation ensures we can respond whenever disaster strikes.

As official Project Partners in disaster relief, Rotary and ShelterBox work together to ensure no one is left without shelter after disaster. Donating to ShelterBox is the best way Rotarians can take immediate action to help families affected by disasters around the world.

Donations can be made online through the button below or by mailing a cheque to ShelterBox Canada - 159 Jane Street, Office 2, Toronto, ON,

Damaged communication lines and fuel shortages are making needs assessments and travel extremely challenging – but our team in our Philippines office is working hard to understand the true extent of the destruction and get aid to those who need it most.
Thank you for staying vigilant and offering a helping hand to ShelterBox in these stressful times. Without the financial and logistical support of Rotarians across the globe, we couldn't have responded to Super Typhoon Rai so quickly.

Gratefully yours,

Stephanie Christensen
