Meaningful Conversations and Club Legacy

For over 25 years, one of our club’s Community Service sweat equity project has been the Salvation Army’s Annual Christmas Kettle drive, raising approximately $2,000 in just two days. This effort entails 10 two-hour shifts, each staffed by two RCOT members; thus, nearly half of our club contributes to this project. By pairing veteran members with newcomers, we create opportunities for meaningful conversations about the club’s activities and legacy projects.

The event takes place during the first weekend of December in the LCBO foyer on Cornwall and consistently achieves outstanding results. Our kettle is the highest-contributing in Halton due to several factors: the energy and enthusiasm of RCOT volunteers, the use of custom-designed high stools to engage LCBO shoppers effectively and strategically moving the kettle outdoors during the day to attract Starbucks visitors.

In recent years, the Salvation Army has introduced a tap system, enabling donations via credit and debit cards alongside cash. This innovation has made it even easier for people to contribute and support this important cause.
