There’s a saying that goes “If you don’t know where you’re going, any road can take you there.” While this approach may be good for an adventurous traveler, it’s not ideal for an organization looking to make an impact in their community.
This month’s Poll asks a few questions about your club and its goals. We’re looking to learn if our clubs use basic strategic planning tools to help prioritize and guide activities throughout the year.

They can lead your club through a 'Visioning Session', an essential first step in developing a strategic plan. It’s never too late to develop a plan! Results From the Dec 2021 Bulletin Poll
Here are the results from last month's poll that asked if Rotary and Rotaract clubs should start to add gender pronouns to their member’s name tags. Although the sample size was small (17 people), it looks like most people that took the survey are NOT in favour of the idea. Most feel that using a person's given name is simply the best way to communicate with one another.
Verbatim comments about why people don't support the idea include…
- We should be calling fellow Rotarians by their name, not by a pronoun.
- It draws attention to people's differences
- Member's classification on the name tag is sufficient and gender neutral. All in Rotary are equal, have been for over 100 years and should remain so. This proposed additional "reclassification" has nothing to do with service to the community and in the world.
- First name should be sufficient
- We don't use gender specific indications in any case; on badges it's a non-issue
- No Mr, no Mrs, no They, no Him, etc. etc. My name is ______, Rotarian - that’s all you need to know.
- Pronouns are needed for any club members. Gender should be not be a difference that needs highlighting. We accept people fir who they are regardless. I would never support this in my club. Unnecessary political correctness has become very tiring.
- It's a non-issue and a distraction from reality. If someone wants to do it - go ahead. Love, trust and respect; no need for labels
- This is optional info. People should not be forced to share it.
- Rotary members always address each other by their first name, no matter the ranking of their profession. What is the point of adding a Ms, Mrs, Mr, Dr, They or Them on their badge, they will still just be known by their first name.
- If someone feels strongly, they can add it if they want. But this should not be mandated
- Creates unneeded divisions
- This is political correctness gone one step too far. Let's keep it simple with just first and last name.
