Expect to hear stories like this one below which was told by an amazing Rotarian in our District as part of the Shine a Light on Rotary campaign.

In 2002, I had a chance to visit two countries in Southern Africa, Zambia and Malawi, as a team member of an Inter-Continental Medicare project through the Rotary Foundation’s focus area of international service. In addition to medical check-ups of patients in various specialties, I along with two other ophthalmologists was to perform eye surgeries for cataract patients. Among the patients I operated on, were a nine-month-old baby boy and around 80 years old lady. They underwent remarkable surgery.

The next day when the bandages were removed, all post-surgical patients were full of joy. I saw that old woman in a state of great happiness. I came to know that the woman was the great-grandmother of that little boy. She had not seen him since he was born because of her blindness due to cataracts. That day was the first time when she could see him and that was the reason for her happiness and equally happy were all of us.

Rotary gave me that opportunity - to shine a light of love, hope, and gratitude in someone's life.
