The First Nation hockey drive started very small in 2014 and grew from there up until 2019. From October to December each year, the Rotary Clubs of Etobicoke and Palgrave led the charge, with assistance and participation of many other clubs in two Districts, collecting hockey equipment.  Sorting took place in January and the shipments were delivered in February and March.  Over the 6 years, a total of approximately 66 tons of skates, helmets, sticks, jerseys and more were collected, with the amount increasing each year except for the last year when we only had about 8 tons, vs. 23 tons the previous year (2018).

Equipment was shipped to the following communities:  Clive River, Artic Bay, Pikangikum, Pickle Lake, Red Lake, Igloolik, Attiwapiskat, Long Lake 58, Mishkeegogmang, Nibinamik, Pond Inlet (12 communities), Iqualuit, Cat Lake, Constance Lake, Keewatin Lespas FN, Bearskin Lake FN, Kasabonika FN, Neskantaga FN, Sandy Lake FN, Big Trout Lake, Summer Beaver, and Kenora (4 Communities).

One of the most exciting deliveries was the 2017 delivery of hockey equipment to Sandy Lake FN, when the Stanley Cup accompanied the delivery along with representatives from the NHL and Rotary.  You can view the video on YouTube at https://youtu.be/9mL5VMQkbVo.
